Ramses mother and father were Queen Tuy and Sety 1. He was given the throne at the age of 20 till he was 87. He was pharaoh for 67 years. This made Ramses the second longest ruling pharaoh. Ramses had many wives his special wife was Nefertari. He had one hundred children with all his wives.
Ramses fought to reclaim territory in Africa and Western Asia. The Hitties and Asia Minor were his main enemies. Ramses led the Battle of Kadesh when he ruled for his fifth year. He lost his territory to one of his enemies which were the Hitties. Ramses pulled back and Kadesh reminded with the Hitties. Later on a treaty was signed and the territory was divided. Also Ramses agreed to marry the daughter of the Hittie King. He attacked a lot of his enemies such as the Nubians. Ramses was known for his military but also for his extreme life of wealth.
His love of power allowed him to get more monuments and temples than any other Pharaoh. Ramses most impressive structure was curved from sandstone. It was called Abu Simbel and it was located in ancient Nubia. He had others statues then the Abu Simbel. Two other ones were Luxor and Karnak. Ramses wanted to leave a mark as a reminder of his great strength and wealth.
The tomb of Ramses 2 is located in the Valley of the Kings.
Ramses tomb has been destroyed by the weather in Egypt. Great amounts of effort are in progress with the hope of returning the tomb. Ramses tomb is remains empty, but the mummy was found. Ramses 2 mummy is thought to be one of the best preserved mummies ever found.
Ramses is a very important Pharaoh. He must have had a busy life. He had married 8 wives and had 7 consorts. He had a long life. There is a lot of information to learn about him.
